Zoo Interchange project enters new phase beginning Saturday
MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- The Zoo Interchange project enters a new phase on Saturday, October 12th -- and that means some new closures for drivers.
Swan Boulevard northbound, from Watertown Plank Road to Discovery Parkway, as well as the Watertown Plank Road northbound entrance ramp to US 45, will be closing Saturday. The northbound entrance ramp to US 45 will remain closed until Fall 2014, as part of the Watertown Plank Road Interchange project.
Access to northbound and southbound Swan Boulevard will re-open late 2013 on the newly configured roadway west of US 45, adjacent to Innovation Drive. As part of the Swan Boulevard reconstruction, Underwood Parkway will be closed November 4 - 15. Access will be maintained to businesses in the area.
A large storm-water drainage structure will be constructed under I-94 East/West, crossing under 84th Street, and continuing underneath Kearney Street. On Saturday, Kearney Street will be closing until July 27, 2014. Motorists are advised to use 84th Street and 70th Street to get around the closure.
The I-94 Eastbound and Westbound entrance ramps at 84th Street will also be closing October 12, 2013 until late Summer 2014. To travel east on I-94, motorists are advised to use the 68th Street I-94 Eastbound entrance ramp. To travel west on I-94, motorists are advised to take 84th Street north to Bluemound Road west to 97th Street, north to Wisconsin Avenue entrance to US 45 South or continue west on Bluemound Road to WIS 100 South to I-94 West entrance.
A third phase of construction is set to include closing the 76th St. bridge. That will happen some time in early 2014.
