"Your heart goes out to the family:" 40-year-old killed in hit-and-run crash near Appleton & Burleigh

MILWAUKEE -- A 40-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on Milwaukee's west side early Sunday, August 16th -- but this may not have been an accident because the victim and suspect may have known each other.

Milwaukee police say the victim was near Appleton and Burleigh when he was struck around 1:40 a.m.

The 40-year-old man that was struck by the car apparently got into some type of fight with the occupants of the vehicle that struck him. While authorities are trying to sort out the circumstances surrounding it all, those living nearby know one thing for sure.

"Young people need to have a better sense of resolve. That's very irresponsible and young people need to know, realize that these are lives and once you get behind the wheel of that car, you are responsible -- you have to pay attention to what you are doing and every life counts," said Jonathon Andrus, with Andrus Limousine.

Andrus is the manager of a limousine service and takes being behind the wheel seriously.

"Accidents happen. You should stop and be accountable for your actions," said Andrus.

As neighbors think about the man and his loved ones.

"Your heart goes out to the family of the victim," said Andrus.

They hope someone nearby saw something that could identify the driver responsible.

Members of the Milwaukee Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the incident. As of now, no suspects are in custody.
