Woman critically hurt in rollover crash on I-41 after traveling through construction zone at high rate of speed

GERMANTOWN -- Officials with the Germantown Police Department say a Milwaukee woman was critically injured in a rollover crash which happened on I-41 south of the Freistadt Road overpass in Germantown on Saturday night, October 1st. Police say prior to the crash, the woman was driving at a high rate of speed through a construction zone.

The crash happened around 11:15 p.m.

An investigation revealed the 37-year-old Milwaukee woman was headed north through an area where two of three lanes of traffic were closed due to construction.

Witnesses reported the woman's vehicle was passing other northbound vehicles and driving on the median shoulder at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached a portable message board trailer stationed in the median, the driver swerved to avoid the sign and lost control of her vehicle, which then entered the median, overturned and struck the median cable barrier.

It continued over cables and came to rest on its roof in the southbound lanes.

The driver was ejected from her vehicle and found lying in the southbound lanes.

Several passing motorists stopped to assist her.

She was eventually taken by ambulance to Froedtert Hospital with critical injuries.

The two southbound lanes of I-41 were closed for about 60 minutes as a result of this crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
