With Courthouse closed, group offers help for domestic violence victims

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee's Sojourner Family Peace Center, an organization that advocates for victims of domestic abuse, has said those looking to file a restraining order this week can reach out to them.

With the Milwaukee County Courthouse and Public Safety Building remaining closed through Tuesday, July 9th as a result of a weekend electrical fire, the Sojourner Family Peace Center asks that anyone requiring restraining order services, or those scheduled for a restraining order court hearing, call the SFPC 24-hour hotline at 414-933-2722.

Sojourner says advocates will assist residents with court and safety-related questions while the court system is down.  Advocates can also provide information as to when a hearing will be held.

If full restraining order services are not restored on Wednesday, SFPC asks folks to give them a call for additional information.

Sojourner Family Peace Center provides education, advocacy and resources to keep people safe -- operating a 46-bed shelter that has provided safety and support services to thousands of women and children. Other programs include a 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline, Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates in the Milwaukee District Attorney’s Office, Belle Resource Center for Women and Children, Courthouse Advocacy and Restraining Order Clinic, Legal Emergency Assistance, Children’s Advocacy, and Beyond Abuse.
