West Bend Police Department warns of scam

WEST BEND (WITI) -- The West Bend Police Department is warning residents of a scam.

According to authorities, West Bend police received a call on August 26th regarding a man who was posing as a We Energies employee and attempting to collect a utility payment by credit card at the customer's residence.

Police say the individual attempting to collect money was not a We Energies employee.

Officials say similar fraudulent representations or scams have occurred in other jurisdictions in southeastern Wisconsin. In each instance, the scammer attempted to obtain credit card numbers from customers.

We Energies advised that they never collect payments from customers at a residence or in the field.

The West Bend Police Department and We Energies encourages anyone who encounters this type of activity to contact their local law enforcement agency -- and do NOT provide any credit card information.
