Cleaning up after the storms in Waukesha

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- Strong storms that pushed across the state on Monday evening, June 30th whipped up a heavy dose of damage! One of the hardest hit areas was Waukesha County and the city of Waukesha, where the cleanup continued on Tuesday.

A homeowner in the Singing Hills neighborhood says he had to post a video to YouTube to show disbelieving relatives the extent of the damage the storms left behind.

Many of those living in Waukesha shared similar sentiments about Monday's storm.

"We're so grateful (we're safe). Just taking pictures to put in my little photo album. Hopefully we never see this again," Barb Krawczyk said.

Many Waukesha homeowners saw damage from the storms.

"All three of the trees from the city sustained some damage, and then the maple tree, and then we have some in the back," Dale Ziesberger said.

"It`s funny because like, about, I`d say a hundred feet to the other side of our house is where everything went down. And everything on our house, and our lot, is just standing fine," Jerry Ivan said.

The discriminatory nature of Mother Nature was on display Tuesday in the Singing Hills neighborhood, where Tuesday's tune was one of relief.

"We were lucky. Ours just split big limbs off. There`s a lot of trees that just pulled right out of the ground!" Lorenz Land said.

Now, Waukesha homeowners are focusing on the cleanup.

"The city will take care of their own trees. They will come through, after awhile, and they will remove what they feel has to be removed," Ziesberger said.

It is up to the homeowners to take care of trees on their own, private properties.

"It`ll be awhile. It`ll be a summer of cleaning up, that`s for sure," Ziesberger said.

Both the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and the Waukesha police say they did not receive any reports of storm-related injuries.

Waukesha police advise city residents some traffic signals may not be functioning properly, so drivers should proceed with caution.
