Deputy-involved shooting in Waukesha Co.

WAUKESHA -- A Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputy shot and wounded a man who was acting in a threatening manner while holding a loaded shotgun. The incident happened at a home near Twin Oaks Drive in Delafield on Tuesday afternoon, January 8th.

Officials say just before 2 p.m., a 31-year-old man was acting suicidal and was in possession of a shotgun, and started acting threatening to another member of the home.  That person called the Sheriff’s Office, who then responded.

Officials say the man let off a shot in the home before the Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene.

When officers got on scene, the man refused to drop his weapon, which subsequently led to a 22-year veteran deputy firing and wounding the man.

The victim of the shooting was transported via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital.  There is no word on his condition at this time.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office is conducting this investigation. That is standard procedure.

Mark Erickson has lived near the normally quiet intersection for 20 years and said he's never once seen his home glowing with the unfamiliar hue of squad lights.

"(Police) have to protect themselves and the citizens, so I have no issue with (the shooting) at all," Ericksons aid.
