Walworth Co. Sheriff: Driver of car dies after collision with pickup truck in Darien

WALWORTH COUNTY -- The Walworth County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened in the Town of Darien on Tuesday morning, September 22nd.

Officials say the wreck happened at the intersection of Townline Rd. and Salt Box Rd. just before 8:30 a.m. Investigators say a car driven by a Darien man was northbound on Salt Box Rd. and failed to stop at a posted stop sign. That car was struck on the passenger side by a pickup truck driven by a Clinton man. The truck had the right of way.

When deputies got to the scene of the wreck, they found the pickup truck on its roof in a ditch near the intersection. It had severe front end damage. The car was found in a cornfield a short distance from the intersection.

Both drivers were taken to a trauma center. The driver of the pickup truck suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car had critical injuries and later died. Officials have identified the driver of the car as Craig McCue.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Darien Fire/Rescue Units, Sharon Fire/Rescue Units, Medix Ambulance, Mercy MD-1, and the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
