Walgreens to close 76 stores nationwide by August

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Walgreens is set to close 76 stores nationwide, according to the Milwaukee Business Journal.

The stores are set to close by August, 2014.

The company declined to outline exactly which stores it plans to shutter until employees have been notified, but did say the unprofitable stores have other Walgreens locations nearby and have seen real estate values decline.

The retailer has 226 stores in Wisconsin and a total of 8,206 in the U.S.

Walgreens officials have said most of the staff in the stores set to close will be reassigned.
