Three MPD officers catch burglars targeting foreclosed homes
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say three officers caught burglars in the act, who were targeting foreclosed properties.
On Thursday, May 24th just before midnight, three MPD officers responded to an entry in progress at 6526 W. Cleveland Ave.
Police say a neighbor, who knew the property was vacant and in foreclosure, had called police to report the entry.
The three District 6 officers arrived and found the door locked, but they heard noise inside in the basement. The officers made entry and arrested two suspects, both 31-year-old men.
Police say the two had locked the door after they broke in. Officers also located the suspects’ vehicle, in which they found a notebook with the addresses of nearly 50 vacant, foreclosed properties written inside.
The suspects have been linked to 17 burglaries of foreclosed properties in District 6 and may be responsible for additional burglaries in surrounding jurisdictions.
