"This was no accident:" South Milw. police now investigate death of 68-year-old woman as a homicide

SOUTH MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- South Milwaukee police say what was first reported to them as an accidental shooting is now being investigated as a homicide.

A 911 call in this case came in around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26th. The caller referred to an accidental shooting at a home on Lake Shore Boulevard. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the female victim and attempted life-saving measures. She died at the scene.

An investigation now shows the woman, identified as 68-year-old Scheherazade Mae Chadwick, was a victim of a homicide.

Loved ones tell FOX6 News they believe Chadwick was robbed early Thursday morning. They believe the suspect(s) later returned and killed her.

"I can`t believe someone would do this to her," Chadwick's daughter, Barbara Streeter said.

"Realize that this was no accident. There was a break-in the night before.  Actually -- early that morning," Chadwick's brother, Albert Kruegel said.

Family members say investigators believe the suspect(s) returned about two hours after the robbery and shot Chadwick.

"I miss her so much.  I love her so much.  I will miss her," Streeter said.

Chadwick's husband Ben passed away a year ago. The couple owned "Chadwick's Pub" in South Milwaukee for 25 years. It is now closed, but the memory of a loving woman lives on in the hearts of family.

"She had a heart of gold.  She`d give you the shirt off her back.  A true loss," Kruegel said.

Family members are hoping the community opens their hearts to help during this difficult time.

"The family does need help.  Any help we can get would be appreciated," Kruegel said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the South Milwaukee Police Department at 414-768-8060.

Meanwhile, a memorial fund for Chadwick has been established at Pyramax Bank to cover funeral expenses.

"We just want to bury her in the right way -- the way she deserves," Streeter said.
