"The support came pouring in:" Students raise enough money to send 5 veterans on Honor Flight

NEW BERLIN -- An elementary school in New Berlin celebrated the service of veterans in a special way on Friday, November 11th.

The "Reagan Gives Back" event for Veterans Day at Ronald Reagan Elementary really started a few weeks ago.

Students sold U.S. flags in hopes of raising more than $500 -- the amount needed to send a one veteran on an Honor Flight.

Nearly 700 students gathered on the school's front lawn -- and knew they had done even better than their goal.

"Our goal was to sell flags to put out in the school yard to raise $500 to send one veteran on an honor flight. The support came pouring in and we have raised $2500 dollars to send five veterans on an honor flight," said Rose Zarske, fourth grade teacher.

Students also brought in pictures of veterans they know to put on the school's "Honor Wall."

Teachers believe this even shows that children do understand how important Veterans Day is to our nation.
