Suspect in custody: Several agencies take part in apprehending man who fled from Milwaukee

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Law enforcement officials from several agencies were involved in apprehending a 33-year-old Milwaukee man who was wanted by Milwaukee police on felony charges. Mount Pleasant police say the man fled from a traffic stop on Milwaukee's north side -- and he was eventually apprehended on the border of Mount Pleasant and Kenosha County following a chase.

It all started shortly before noon on Tuesday, July 22nd on Milwaukee's north side. Milwaukee police engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the man, who fled from officers during a traffic stop.

Kenosha County Sheriff Bill Beth tells FOX6 News the man was wanted for first degree sexual assault while armed.

Milwaukee police tell FOX6 News the sexual assault happened in the area of 27th and Capitol around 5:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18th.

Police say a 23-year-old Milwaukee man was approached by the 33-year-old suspect, who was in a car. Police say he displayed a handgun and demanded the victim get into the car. Once in the car, police say the suspect sexually assaulted the victim -- before the victim was able to flee.

Police were able to identify the suspect -- and shortly before noon on Tuesday, July 22nd, detectives acting in an undercover capacity observed the suspect enter the freeway in the area of 27th and St. Paul.

Milwaukee police officers lost sight of the man -- and an alert was sent out to area law enforcement agencies with suspect and vehicle descriptions. This, because the man was thought to be armed and dangerous.

Officers from multiple agencies were looking for the 33-year-old man.

Shortly after receiving the alert, officers from the Wisconsin State Patrol and Kenosha County Sheriff's Department pursued the suspect near State Highway 142 and 100th Avenue in Kenosha County.

The man was again able to elude officers.

Then, a Sturtevant police officer located the suspect near County Highway KR and County Highway H (on the border of Mount Pleasant and Kenosha County). The Sturtevant police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle when the suspect lost control.

Sturtevant police officers held the man at gunpoint -- and shortly thereafter, with assistance from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the suspect was arrested.

Mount Pleasant K9 Officer "Bones" responded to the scene -- and alerted to the presence of drugs in the suspect's vehicle. Officers were able to locate marijuana in the man's vehicle -- and charges for possession of marijuana are being referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office.

The 33-year-old man was turned over to Milwaukee police detectives. Felony charges against him in this case are pending.

Kenosha County Sheriff's officials say they will be submitting charges for fleeing and eluding for the incident that occurred in their county.
