Suspect in custody, accused of killing 1 woman, injuring another in domestic violence-related shooting

MILWAUKEE -- One woman is dead and another injured after a shooting on Milwaukee's north side Monday night, November 15th. The suspect has been taken into custody.

FOX6 News has learned the suspect was arrested around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15th.

Milwaukee police were called out to the area of 74th and Glenbrook around 9:30 p.m. to investigate a shooting that we're told was the result of a domestic violence incident.

Upon arrival, officers found two victims, a 30-year-old woman and a 57-year-old woman, both suffering from gunshot wounds. 30-year-old Kortni Thornton passed away at the scene.

The 57-year-old woman was treated on the scene and transported to a hospital. Her injuries are non-life threatening.

Police were seeking a 32-year-old suspect who Thornton knew. That suspect is in custody -- awaiting formal charges.

"I never would have thought it would have come to anything like that right in the parking lot. It's so sad and it's terrifying," a neighbor said.

Vanessa Love, a friend and neighbor of Thornton, who was a mother of three, said she has a message for anyone dealing with domestic violence:

"She was a sweet lady. She was definitely going through a lot over here. I would try to be there for her. All I do is think about her kids. My heart goes out to them. If I hear anything about a woman being abused, I try to give them a word like -- don`t accept that. Don`t keep taking that. Report it. Get away from it," Vanessa Love said.
