Suspect, armed with handgun, arrested after BMW fled officers, crashed at MLK and Auer

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say a vehicle that fled from officers on Wednesday, May 11th crashed near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Auer Avenue.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m.

Police say officers observed a black BMW driving erratically on 2nd Street, between Burleigh and Auer, and officers tried to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then ran the stop sign at MLK and Auer -- striking another vehicle in the intersection.

Inside that vehicle was a 67-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl. Both suffered minor injuries.

The suspect, a 23-year-old man, ran from the scene, police say. He was armed with a handgun.

Police were able to take him into custody near 4th Street and Auer Avenue. He sustained minor injuries in the crash.

A second person was arrested for attempting to interfere in a police investigation, police said.
