Stolen instrument found in burglary suspect's car

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police arrested a burglary suspect after finding a stolen instrument in his car on Monday evening, January 13th.

Officers from District 7 responded to a home near 80th and Burleigh around 5:30 p.m. An alert citizen reported a suspicious person and car in the neighborhood.

When officers went to the address given, they noticed damage to both the rear and front door where a suspect had entered. Officers notified the homeowner who told them she did not know if any property had been taken.

While investigating this crime, another possible burglary in progress was broadcast over police radio a short distance away. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a car matching the vehicle description from the first incident.

The person driving the car was a 19-year-old Milwaukee man. In the trunk of the car, a musical instrument with sheet music that had the name of the homeowner whose home had been broken into was found.

The homeowner confirmed that the instrument was missing and the suspect was taken into custody.

The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
