Southbound lanes of Loomis Rd. reopened near Edgerton Ave. after cable & phone lines snagged

GREENFIELD (WITI) -- The southbound lanes of Loomis Rd. near Edgerton Ave. in Greenfield reopened around 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 31st after an accident involving a truck and cable, phone and power lines.

According to the Greenfield police chief, a dump truck towing an excavator struck the lines in the morning as the vehicle was leaving Bluemel's Garden and Landscape Center. Cable and phone lines were snared by the excavator. But in doing so, power poles nearby were tilted -- and one even snapped at the base and must now be replaced.

The power lines near the top of the poles remain intact. But because the one pole needs to be replaced, power has been cut off to homes in the neighborhood.

The Wisconsin State Patrol has been called in to investigation this accident.
