Soaked! Raging Sheboygan River hits flood stage & draws a crowd; more rain in the forecast!

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- We're expecting another round of showers and thunderstorms overnight Thursday into Friday morning -- after strong storms moved through on Monday night into Tuesday morning, and again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The FOX6 Weather Team says with more rain moving in, there is a threat for flooding.

The Sheboygan River hit flood stage on Wednesday morning, June 18th.

There isn't an immediate danger to homes and businesses, but the river is bringing a lot of onlookers to the area.

There is a reason it's called Sheboygan Falls.

"The water is really rushing!"

At Settlers Park, dozens stopped by Thursday afternoon to take a look at the rising water.

"Trees are under the water. The water has come up onto an area that used to be grass. It`s bypassing parts of the dam because there is so much water flowing over it,"

With water spilling into expanded boundaries, Josh Zimmerman snapped a photo to remember the raging, wild Sheboygan River.

"It's magnificent. I think it's going to flood a little bit more," Zimmerman said.

The area near Settlers Park wasn't the only spot in Sheboygan Falls that was soaked on Thursday.

The grassy knolls at Rochester Park were filled with standing water.

Near Cleveland and Water Street, parts of the river filled an abandoned parking lot.

The National Weather Service says the Sheboygan River just reached flood stage.

It quickly rose from about three feet on Monday to 8.2 feet on Wednesday morning.

"It will take a little while to go away,"

Officials at the Sheboygan County Highway Department says roads that were washed out after this week's storms are now dry.

This, as more precipitation is expected to fall overnight Thursday and into Friday morning.

"All the heavy rain we've had the last few days -- more on the way I see!" Zimmerman said.

The National Weather Service says despite the threat for more rain, the Sheboygan River should return to normal levels by next week Thursday.
