Six-year-old child darts into traffic after a Frisbee and is struck by a car in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police say a child was struck by a car and injured on Monday afternoon, September 29th.

It happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. in the 2100 block of Howe Street in the Village of Mount Pleasant.

Officials determined a 22-year-old Racine woman was headed northbound on Howe Street when a six-year-old child darted out into traffic from between two parked vehicles in order to retrieve a Frisbee.

Mount Pleasant police say the child was conscious at the scene -- and taken to the hospital with a leg injury. The child is expected to survive.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck the child cooperated at the scene. That driver wasn't injured -- but her vehicle sustained minor damage.

Police say alcohol wasn't a factor in this incident, and no one else was injured.
