Six students injured when school bus goes into ditch in Rubicon

DODGE COUNTY (WITI) -- Dodge County Sheriff's officials say a school bus went into a ditch on Monday afternoon, February 17th -- as measurable snow was falling throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. near County Highway NP and Valley Road in Rubicon. At the time, roads were snow covered and extremely slippery, the Wittenberger Bus Company school bus driver reported near white-out conditions.

Hartford Fire and Rescue says six of the 10 students on board the bus were transported to the hospital. Four of the students had parents on scene that signed releases refusing medical treatment.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

The bus was carrying students from Hartford Union High School.

It is unclear at this time as to whether any citations will be issued.
