Sheriff's officials arrest 36th wrong-way driver in Milwaukee Co. this year

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials arrested 27-year-old Iris Arevalo of Milwaukee for OWI and driving the wrong way on I-45 early Monday morning, December 24th.

Sheriff's officials say Arevalo was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of I-45 around 1:15 Monday morning, narrowly missing a Cudahy police squad car near the Bluemound Road on-ramp.

The Cudahy police officer called Sheriff's dispatch, before observing Arevalo making a U-turn to head northbound, passing him.

The Cudahy police officer stopped Arevalo near Watertown Plank Road.

Sheriff's officials say Arevalo was uncooperative and blew a .19. She told officials she had just left Jo Jo's Martini Lounge in Wauwatosa.

Arevalo was arrested for second degree recklessly endangering safety, OWI (first offense), prohibited alcohol concentration, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and unlawful U-turn.

Arevalo is the 36th wrong-way driver in Milwaukee County this year.
