Sheriff David Clarke honors everyday heroes who have gone above and beyond

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke on Tuesday, September 23rd honored those who put their lives on the line every day -- and some every day heroes.

Sheriff Clarke held a special ceremony at the Pfister Hotel to honor Sheriff's deputies, a correctional officer and citizens for heroic acts and community service.

One of those honors was Milwaukee County Transit employee Bill Bierman. Bierman was driving a bus and noticed a woman was being attacked.

He couldn't just watch it happen -- so he stepped in until police got there.

Sheriff Clarke says citizens like Bierman are what this ceremony is all about.

"The stories are pretty anxiety filled for what they went through, but if you don't do this every once in awhile people will start to think that they're being taken for granted," Sheriff David Clarke said.

No taxpayer money is used for the ceremony. It is paid for through sponsors who also appreciate these everyday heroes.
