Sheboygan school closed due to standoff in the area; suspect now in custody

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- The Sheboygan Police Department says they have taken a 21-year-old man into custody following an overnight standoff at a home near 10th and Oakland. As a result of the standoff, Farnsworth Middle School canceled classes Tuesday, November 4th.

Sheboygan police on Monday night, November 3rd were called to a home near 10th and Oakland Avenue after residents reported that they had safety concerns for a family member.

Police say the incident began around 8:30 p.m.

According to police, family members were concerned due to statements being made by the 21-year-old man who had access to a handgun in the residence.

When police arrived on scene, they escorted the callers from the home before establishing a perimeter and attempting to make contact with the 21-year-old man.

Police say prolonged contact was unsuccessful and the Sheboygan Police Department requested technical assistance from the Milwaukee Police Department.

Sheboygan police announced around 9:00 a.m. that the man had been taken into custody without incident and that the area is now accessible to the public.
