"Save Our Sons" campaign created to stop violence among young

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A new campaign in Milwaukee Public Schools comes with a powerful message to stop violence and get youth on the right path. The campaign is called "Save Our Sons."

"We didn't just want to say let's go into the school and have a conversation with young people.  We wanted to have a major impact," said Kwabena Antoine Nixon of "Save Our Sons."

Jamaal Smith is signing up to be a part of "Save Our Sons" as a mentor.

"We've got to be able to provide education, not just academically, but a holistic approach.  We're educating physically, spiritually, mentally," said Smith.

It's an approach that turned Marshall Trudo's life around.

"The positivity was infectious. They helped me do things I wouldn't otherwise been able to do," said Trudo.

Trudo was once incarcerated and now he's in college. He credits the creators of the "Save Our Sons" program for helping him get on the right path.

"They provided me with the tools and things I needed to survive and I was able to propel myself into success," said Trudo.
