Racine businesses cited during inspections following complaints
RACINE (WITI) -- On 10/16/13, members of the Racine Police Department assisted agents from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue – Alcohol Tobacco Enforcement Unit, (ATEU) in conducting inspections of 14 businesses that hold an alcohol or tobacco license.
The operation was a direct result of numerous complaints the ATEU has received regarding licensed businesses within the City of Racine selling untaxed alcohol and tobacco products as well as K2.
Further complaints included selling alcohol after hours and to underage persons.
The focus of the operation was to investigate, detect, and confiscate any untaxed cigarettes and tobacco products located within the businesses, and confirm alcohol was purchased legally.
The following items were confiscated and retained by the ATEU:
A total of 12 citations were issued by the Racine Police Department for licensing violations.
The Racine Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue Alcohol Tobacco Enforcement Unit continue to work together to ensure compliance with state and local law.
