Pursuit in South Milwaukee ends in Milwaukee; Could suspect be responsible for armed robbery?

SOUTH MILWAUKEE/MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- South Milwaukee police are looking into whether a suspect involved in a pursuit may be responsible for an armed robbery that occurred one day earlier.

Police say on Monday afternoon, August 11th -- they took a report from a 15-year-old male -- who reported being robbed at gunpoint on the street near 13th Avenue and Menomonee Avenue in South Milwaukee.

On Tuesday, August 12th, while in the area of Rawson Avenue at 14th Avenue -- the officers who took the robbery report saw what they believed to be the suspect's vehicle -- a green truck without registration plates.

Police officers followed the vehicle -- as it sped away. Officers followed with their lights and sirens activated.

Police say the vehicle wove through residential streets, and the officers lost sight of it near Hickory and Nicholson. That's when the pursuit was terminated.

Moments later, another South Milwaukee police officer, in a marked squad, saw the vehicle as it headed north on Nicholson Avenue at College Avenue.

The officer activated lights and sirens -- and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle continued through parts of Cudahy, the city of St. Francis, and Milwaukee. Police tell FOX6 News the truck didn't reach speeds above 40 or 50 miles-per-hour.

Eventually -- the fleeing driver pulled over and stopped on Holt Avenue at Burrell Street.

No one was injured -- and no property damage occurred.

Police were able to take the driver -- a 20-year-old Milwaukee man, into custody. He was arrested for eluding police.

South Milwaukee police plan to question him on the armed robbery of the 15-year-old male.

Police say the driver's passenger, a 19-year-old South Milwaukee man, was taken into custody as well.
