Protesters, supporters went head-to-head outside Trump rally in Appleton; conflict verbal



APPLETON -- A 15-year-old girl was pepper sprayed during a Donald Trump rally in Janesville on Tuesday, March 29th, and on Wednesday, March 30th, police released photos of the suspect they were seeking in connection with that incident. This, as Donald Trump hosted rallies in De Pere and Appleton, and was scheduled to take part in an MSNBC town hall event in Green Bay.

There were plenty of protesters again Wednesday outside of Trump's campaign stops in De Pere and Appleton.

The demonstration in Appleton was spirited, but peaceful.

The Trump rally in Appleton took place at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel at 2:00 p.m.

Ahead of Trump's arrival, supporters and protesters went head-to-head on opposite sides of the street in front of the hotel.

"I'm just here to show my disgust for Donald Trump's racism," a Trump protester said.

There were cheers as one woman went from wearing a pro Trump shirt, to having its message changed by a woman with a Sharpie.

Tyler Van Rossun came to Appleton Wednesday to hear Trump speak in person for the first time.

"He pushes the envelope as far as getting what he wants. It's awesome. It's something you haven't seen from a president before," Van Rossun said.

"The issue is not Trump himself. The issue is the kind of rhetoric he uses," David Haas said.

"I understand if you're against Trump, but I don't think this kind of hatred against him is justified. Some people may not agree with him, but to say other peoples' opinions are wrong is kind of hypocritical against him," Justin Weyenberg said.

At times, some of the protesters marched over to the Trump supporters and chanted, but all the clashes FOX6 News saw during the event were verbal -- not physical.

Trump will be in Rothschild for a rally on Saturday, April 2nd. That event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
