Precious Dupriest sentenced to 18 years in prison

MILWAUKEE -- A judge sentenced Precious Dupriest to 18 years in prison and ten years of extended supervision on Friday, September 21st. This, after pleading guilty to strangling 63-year-old Billy Murray.

The family of Murray shed tears and hugs on Friday, September 21st. But the relatives of the slain Milwaukee man now feel a sense of closure.

"Our family is satisfied with the sentencing of Ms. Dupriest and we just hope and pray she gets the help she deserves and needs at this time," said Denise Flowers, Murray's daughter.

Dupriest admitted to strangling Murray in October 2011 at the Village Inn Motel. The then 19-year-old told investigators she agreed to have sex with Murray but strangled him when he repeatedly tried to kiss her.

During her sentencing hearing on Friday, Dupriest read a letter to Murray's family.

"I pray for the Murray family and I pray for their forgiveness every night. I have an everyday battle within myself. Every day, I think about it and I hate myself even more," said Dupriest.

Judge Ellen Brostrom acknowledged Dupriest's remorse but said a lengthy sentence was necessary because the crime was so violent and had caused so much grief.

"The loss is indescribable for this family and I know you understand that and I'm not saying that to make you feel worse but it has to be recognized," said Judge Brostrom.
