Police: Convicted felon, out on bail in burglary case arrested after alleged attempted burglary

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police were able to quickly arrest a convicted felon accused of trying to break into a home early Monday morning, April 13th.

Police were called out to a home in the 5700 block of S. Melinda Street around 2:30 a.m. for a report of an attempted burglary. There, they spoke with a man who told officers he was inside his home when the suspect tried to open a window.

When the suspect saw the victim, he fled from the scene.

About 10 minutes later, officers found a man matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of S. 34th Street and W. Ramsey Avenue and took him into custody.

The suspect is a 23-year-old Milwaukee man -- a convicted felon with a criminal record dating back to 2010. Police say he was out on bail in a burglary case at the time of Monday morning's alleged crime.

Charges will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
