Our American Revival: Gov. Scott Walker wades into the presidential campaign waters

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Gov. Scott Walker waded closer to a presidential run on Tuesday, January 27th with the creation of a new political action committee (PAC). It will help him travel and raise money as he prepares for a potential White House bid.

Papers for the PAC, "Our American Revival," were filed for the 527 organization, and a website went live on Tuesday.

"If you look at the content of the website that opened up earlier today, it's pretty clear what his strategy is," said Mordecai Lee, Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. "That sort of one big legal step that every candidate for president has to do is register a campaign committee with the federal elections committee."

The new website boasts that "Our American Revival" will focus on reforms that will take control from the federal government and big government special interested -- and give it back to taxpayers.

Although he hasn't formally announced his plans, Gov. Walker's latest activities, such as this past weekend's speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit and trips to California and Colorado, prove he's gaining momentum.

"You have to recruit active campaign volunteers you need feet on the ground. Way to do so is to appear at events that he did over the weekend," said Lee.

"Since I've been governor, we passed pro-life legislation and we've defunded planned parenthood. We've enacted legislation that allows for concealed carry and castle doctrine, so that law abiding citizens in our state can stand up and defend themselves and their family and their properties," said Walker over the weekend.

Lately, Walker has shared stories about his victory over a recall election -- and is laying out his conservative credentials. Lee feels it's coming together so he can position himself as an economic conservative.

"He needs people to say they love him and he's number one," said Lee.

Lee says Walker may hold off on a formal announcement until he completes work in the governor's office -- such as finishing the budget process with the state Legislature.

Chris Christie, another governor interested in a presidential run, also launched his PAC on Monday.
