One dead, another hurt in Mukwonago house fire

MUKWONAGO -- Washington County fire officials continue to investigate a deadly house fire that occurred in Mukwonago early Wednesday morning near County Road X and Dable Road. EMS crews say they received a call shortly before 12:30 a.m. of a person having difficulty breathing, and when they arrived on the scene, they found the house completely engulfed in flames.

"We had a hard time getting into the house due to the amount of fire that was in there," Mukwonago Deputy Fire Chief Andy Wegner said. Wegner says when firefighters finally got access onto the property, they found a woman outside in the driveway who was injured. That woman was treated and transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital. A second woman was found dead inside the home.

Officials believe the two individuals were mother and daughter, and both lived in the home.

Fire and police crews are still investigating this fire, trying to determine the cause. They say they don't believe this fire to be suspicious. "It was unusual that we came to an EMS call, and it turned into a fire response," Wegner said. The name of the victim has not yet been released, and the condition of the injured woman is not known at this time.
