Officers arrest burglary suspect minutes after he committed crime

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police officers from District 5 identified and arrested a 19-year-old burglary suspect just minutes after he committed a crime, officials say.

Officials say the officers were on patrol near 20th and Burleigh around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 11th when they observed a Milwaukee man in an alley carrying a flat screen television. The officers stopped to talk to the man who claimed he was fighting with his girlfriend and took the television from a nearby residence. When they went to inspect the house, officers found a broken window and broken blinds. Some of the missing slats from the blinds were even found in the suspect’s pants.

The homeowner later confirmed the burglary and that she did not know the suspect.

Officers also found the victim’s wallet and two cell phones on the suspect. During questioning with detectives, he confessed to the burglary.

The case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
