Officer hurt in collision between squad, another car

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- A Sheboygan police officer responding to an automobile accident was involved in a collision himself just before 11 a.m. on Friday, January 17th.

The collision happened as the officer was heading southbound on S. Taylor Dr. crossing Washington Ave. The officer was using his lights and sirens at the time of the collision.



The driver of the automobile is a 36-year-old Sheboygan County man. He was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for pain in his left side.

The 43-year-old officer, a 21-year veteran of the department, was taken to Sheboygan St. Nicholas Hospital for injuries to his right hand. He was released -- and is expected to return to duty.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
