Off-duty officer notices suspect trying to enter home, stealing package from porch, and promptly arrests him

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say an alert off-duty officer was able to stop a potential burglary on Tuesday, September 27th on Milwaukee's northwest side.

It happened on N. 109th Street near Green Tree Road around 3:45 p.m.

Police say the off-duty officer was driving near his home when he saw a suspicious subject pushing on the door of a home and trying to enter it -- before stealing a package from the front porch and fleeing.

The suspect, a 24-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken into custody by the officer.

The suspect had a stolen handgun on him at the time of the arrest and faces potential charges of attempted burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, and theft.

MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
