Now in custody: Suspect arrested in connection with bank robbery in Watertown

WATERTOWN -- The Watertown Police Department says the suspect involved in a bank robbery that happened at the State Bank of Reeseville on Monday afternoon, July 11th has been taken into custody.

Police say the suspect entered the bank of just before 3:00 p.m.

He approached a teller, and displayed a large frame black semi-automatic handgun and demanded cash.

The suspect also left a camouflage backpack on the floor -- stating it was a bomb with a motion device. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller.

The suspect fled bank on foot through the south doors and is believed to have left the bank lot in a vehicle.

Watertown police obtained the assistance of the Milwaukee Police Department Bomb Squad and Federal Bureau of Investigation to safely remove from the bank and dispose of the purported bomb in the camouflage backpack.

The backpack did not contain explosives.
