Nine months in HOC for man found guilty of election fraud
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee man found guilty of seven election felonies has been sentenced to nine months in the House of Correction, with Huber release for work.
Leonard Brown was charged in March of 2013 with one count of multiple votes in a single election, one count of false statements to an election official, and five counts of voting as a disqualified person.
Brown pleaded guilty in the case on October 14th, 2013. Brown pleaded guilty to five counts -- voting as a disqualified person.
A jury trial was set on the additional two charges.
Brown was convicted on both counts (multiple votes in a single election, and false statements to an election official) on January 30th.
Each of the seven charges for which Brown stands convicted is a felony -- punishable by a fine of not more than 3.5 years in prison and/or not more than $10,000 in fines.
Officials say in this case, Brown had moved from his West Milwaukee address in June of 2008, but voted in the Village of West Milwaukee when he was actually living in West Allis and Milwaukee.
Officials say Brown voted in West Milwaukee during seven separate elections between 2008 and 2012.
Officials say Brown worked at the VA Hospital, and say the West Milwaukee polling place would have been on Brown's way to and from work.
Brown has a criminal history, with convictions dating back to 1983. He has two criminal convictions for sexual assault. He was convicted of impersonating a police officer and paid a fine in Greendale.
In addition to his time in the House of Correction, Brown must serve two years of probation.
