New exhibit at Art Museum highlights color photography

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Art Museum opens its newest feature exhibition, COLOR RUSH: 75 YEARS OF COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY IN AMERICA, on Friday, February 22nd. FOX6 News got a preview of the exhibit on Thursday.

The show is a history of the evolution of color photography from its earliest incarnation to the pop culture developments of the 1980s, telling the story of the American twentieth century. The exhibition explores the various developments that lead to color photography being an accepted, and highly popular, form of art.

"Today, you know, with new digital photography, it's all in color. And we tend to take it for granted. So what's interesting about this show is that it reminds us of a time when it was new and strange to see photography in color," exhibit co-curator Lisa Hostetler said.
