MPD's "HOT" Team takes tour of Salvation Army shelter
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Police Department is making one of its programs stronger than its ever been in the city.
That program is HOT -- which stands for Homeless Outreach Team.
Members toured the Salvation Army's Emergency Lodge on Tuesday -- taking a look at what the organization offers to the homeless.
The HOT officers are visiting and getting to know homeless shelters, services and resources all across the city.
"All the locations that we need to know about very well so that we can take our homeless individuals and get them to the services that they need," Milwaukee Police Lt. Karen Dubis said.
The HOT program started with two officers -- and there are now 29. The efforts of these officers are even more critical during the bitterly cold weather we've seen this winter.
