MPD welcomes two new K9 officers, Agu and Bravo

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Police Department on Monday, December 9th welcomed two new officers to the force!

The Department's newest members are K9 officers Agu and Bravo, who graduated from training on Monday and are now ready to hit the streets.








In a ceremony at the Neighborhood Task Force, Chief Edward Flynn presented the K9’s with their badges.

Agu and Bravo will join their handlers, Officers Mike McGrath and Jeff Lepianka, to help fight crime in Milwaukee.

Local philanthropist Stan Kass of Skylark Vending donated $15,000 to cover the purchase and training of Agu and the necessary modifications to a squad car for a K9.

Fromm Family Foods of Mequon donates food and treats for the dogs.

With the addition of Agu and Bravo, there are now seven K9 officers working from the Neighborhood Task Force.

So far in 2013, 71 suspects have surrendered due to the sight, sound, or threat of the canine. They also have been responsible for numerous seizures, including 13 guns, more than 30 pounds of marijuana, more than one pound of cocaine, more than 72 grams of heroin, nearly 16 grams of ecstasy, and more than $70,000 in cash.

Along with Officers McGrath and Lepianka (with Agu and Bravo), the Neighborhood Task Force K9 Unit consists of Officer Todd Johnson and K9 Dasty, Officer Christina Marshall and K9 Kenny, Officer Tina Roesken and K9 Emo, Officer Dereck Vernon and K9 Jagr, and Officer Shawn Burger and K9 Rocky.
