Mother looks for answers in hit and run of 17-year-old son
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A 17-year-old boy was hit by an SUV and dragged several yards on Friday night, October 25th near the intersection of 27th and Oklahoma. The driver never stopped and now the boy's mother is searching for answers and hoping for an arrest.
"Just came out of nowhere, hit him and continued to drag him," said Rebecca McKenzie. "He was screaming for his life saying please stop, please stop and it just kept going."
McKenzie's son, Rafael, was walking to the bus stop when he was hit while crossing the street. The boy was taken to the hospital with injuries including a broken pelvis, thigh and ribs. He also suffered bruised lungs and a cut on his liver.
"He said mom, I thought I was going to die," said McKenzie. "He's going to be in the hospital for a while. He's still got a lot of surgeries to go through and a lot of recovering to do."
McKenzie continues to ask questions about the incident and is hopeful someone comes forward with information about the person who hit her son.
"I just want justice served," said McKenzie. "I don't know how anybody can live with themselves or sleep at night. As far as they know he was left for dead."
Doctors tell McKenzie it could be at least six weeks for her son to recover.
Authorities are looking for what may be a black Chevy Blazer with a spare tire mounted on the back. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.
