MADISON (AP/WITI) — An overflow crowd in Madison to remember 19-year-old Tony Robinson -- shot and killed by a Madison police officer Friday, March 6th. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14th.
The incident began on March 6th when authorities got a call that a male was yelling and jumping in front of cars, Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said. A little later, the dispatcher says, “Apparently Tony hit one of his friends. No weapons seen.”Dispatchers identified him as Tony Robinson, according to 911 audio obtained by WKOW. About four minutes later, the dispatcher says, “I got another call for the same suspect at . He tried to strangle another patron.” About 30 seconds later, an unidentified officer says, “Shots fired, shots fired.” When Officer Matt Kenny went to the apartment, he heard some commotion and forced his way in, Koval said. “Once inside the home the subject involved in this incident — the same one allegedly out in traffic and that had battered someone — assaulted my officer,” Koval said. Koval says Robinson attacked Officer Kenny. After that, according to the chief, “The officer did draw his revolver and subsequently shot the subject.”
Robinson had a criminal history. Wisconsin Circuit Court documents indicate Robinson pleaded guilty in December to an armed robbery that occurred last April.
This officer-involved shooting made Madison the latest epicenter of protests.
Saturday was a very emotional day as more than 1,000 packed Madison East High School for a visitation and funeral service.
"I love him so much. I had great aspirations and hopes for him," said Robinson's grandfather.

Robinson's death sparked several large protests in Madison last week. An open letter signed by nearly 90 clergy members on Friday said Robinson's death exposed long-standing racial inequalities in Madison. Tony Robinson was bi-racial.
Officer Matt Kenny was placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting.
The Wisconsin DOJ's Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating this case.
On Friday, March 13th, the Dane County Medical Examiner released a preliminary autopsy report on Tony Robinson. The report shows Robinson was shot in his head, torso and right arm. The report did not say how many times he was shot.
Additional tests, including toxicology reports, are still pending.
