KENOSHA COUNTY (WITI) -- The Minnesota governor's sharp tongue is benefiting the Badger state. Recently, the governor called the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's television ad campaign 'idiotic'.
"Oh my gosh that Governor Dayton, the governor of Minnesota, singled out Wisconsin tourism and our ads out has been the biggest gift that we ever could have asked for," said Wisconsin's Secretary of Tourism, Stephanie Klett.
Klett is referring to Governor Mark Dayton's response to the department's 'Airplane' ad campaign which features actors from the 1980's movie touting tourism in the dairy state.
Dayton, during a recent tourism convention, calls the campaign "one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen."
"David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams, you know, the creators of 'airplane,' just wrong a written response and they said, 'Governor Dayton, have you never seen our movies? They're idiotic. So, yes, we make idiotic commercials that work," said Klett.
Additionally, Klett explains the comments have created a social media buzz which has only added to the ad's reach, and the state's tourism tallies.
"What he said, and the fact that we are opening this amazing facility today, the timing is perfect because it's just one more thing that Wisconsin tourism's done," said Klett.
Klett says she's already sent a 'thank you' basket of Wisconsin's finest dairy state delights to Minnesota.
