Milwaukee woman arrested for driving drunk, had 8 kids in car
Retha McCoy
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 50-year-old Retha McCoy for allegedly driving drunk with eight children in her car late on Saturday, August 17th.
Deputies were first alerted to the situation when a 911 call came into the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Communications Center regarding a potential battery case. Officials say McCoy was involved in some kind of fight following a family reunion taking place at Kern Park in Milwaukee.
McCoy was apparently driving her husband (the complainant in this case) and his eight grandchildren -- and pulled over in an area of the park where members of her family were located. Witnesses state "she then hit her husband in the forehead, resulting in a cut. Four other members of McCoy's family joined in, knocking the victim to the ground and kicking and punching him."
McCoy apparently remained on the scene -- and deputies arriving on the scene detected alcohol on her breath during questioning. She was arrested for DUI-2nd with minor passengers in the vehicle as well as battery. Her preliminary blood alcohol content was .08 -- more than the legal limit for driving.
If convicted, McCoy faces up to six months in custody on the drunk driving charge. She also faces a possible nine months in jail on the battery charge.
