Milwaukee police: Three shot, injured near 12th & Ring; suspect arrested after short foot pursuit

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Tuesday night, August 12th near N. 12th and Ring.  Three people sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.

According to police, the victims and suspect were gambling outside of a residence when the suspect, who was losing, left the scene.

A short time later, the suspect returned with a handgun and demanded his money back.

Officials say at least of one of the victims refused to return the money, at which time the suspect began to shoot -- striking the victims.

Officers in the area on another assignment heard the shots being fired and saw the suspect and victims run into an alley.

They chased the suspect on foot and took him into custody. During the chase, the suspect dropped the gun believed to be used in the shooting.

The victims, all from Milwaukee, include a 26-year-old woman, and two men, ages 36 and 20. Responding officers provided medical treatment to the victims and summoned the Milwaukee Fire Department. The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The 26-year-old shooting suspect is a convicted felon and has an extensive criminal record dating back to 2004. He has previous convictions of Battery by Prisoners, Possession of Cocaine, Substantial Battery, Resisting an Officer, and Criminal Damage to Property. MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
