Milwaukee police investigate death of five-month-old girl

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a five-month-old girl at a home near Burleigh and Palmer on the city's north side.

Officials were called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, February 21st when the child's mother discovered she was not breathing.

"That's sad to know that a baby that age is found dead," said neighbor Nakayla Roy. "It just doesn't seem right. Doesn't feel right at all."

After spending hours inside the home, officers took a woman away in handcuffs. It is unclear at this time who she is or why she was taken into custody.

The Milwaukee Police Department and Medical Examiner are working together to determine the child's cause of death.

The incident is still under investigation.
