Milwaukee police help reunite elderly man with family in IL

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Officers from District 7 of the Milwaukee Police Department helped reunite an elderly man with his family in Illinois.

Officers Matthew Grauberger and Billie Ellis were sent to check on the man after a concerned citizen spotted him near N. Green Bay Avenue and W. Hampton Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. on January 26.

Upon their arrival, they met an 85-year-old man from suburban Chicago who seemed to have been suffering from dementia or other related illness.

The officers contacted the police in Illinois who were able to locate a family member. Police Officer Grauberger coordinated with the man’s family for the man to stay the night in a local hotel.

The officers also located the man’s car in Bay View.

The temperatures at the time were sub-zero with wind chill and if not for the cooperation between the concerned citizen and the two officers, the man could have potentially become a cold weather casualty.
