MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission reappointed Police Chief Ed Flynn on Thursday evening, July 2nd to another four-year term.

Flynn will be starting his third term as police chief in January 2016. He was first appointed to chief in January 2008.

Prior to his taking the job in Milwaukee, Flynn was Police Commissioner in Springfield, Massachusetts from 2006 to 2008.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett issued this statement on Flynn's reappointment:

"Chief Flynn has proved himself a decisive and innovative leader who has been unafraid to make tough decisions.  He has led the Milwaukee Police Department to a position of national prominence.  We should remember that under his administration, some of the lowest homicide totals in the last three decades were achieved.  I have no doubt he is up to the current challenge."
