Milwaukee officials seek $30 million federal grant for redevelopment at Westlawn Public Housing property

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- City officials in Milwaukee are seeking a $30 million federal grant to redevelop the western half of the Westlawn Public Housing property.

They are looking to create 706 new apartments and houses.

The city already has demolished buildings on the eastern half of the eight-block property, and they've built 250 new housing units there.

The federal grant would pay for a similar project on the western segment of the property.

The grant was filed last month.

Federal officials will likely announce whether the city is successful by October.
