Milwaukee DPW removes ice & debris from sewer grates
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Dept. of Public Works crews are removing debris, ice, and snow from sewer grates throughout the city on Friday, March 8th. They are focusing on areas where potential ponding may be a problem throughout the City of Milwaukee.
DPW crews are inspecting underpasses to ensure they are clear as well. They'll also be using cleaning equipment to clean the catch basins and drains as necessary.
"We are anticipating warmer weather and rainfall over the weekend," said DPW worker Robert Brooks.
There are a total of 15 crews assigned to ensuring catch basins are opened and free of debris.
"It can cause large surface flooding you can see cars going through hydroplaning and can cause major accidents," said Brooks.
Residents are also encouraged to remove any obstructions that may be covering their catch basins to eliminate any potential surface ponding.
Residents and motorists should report any surface ponding to 414-286-CITY.
