Milw. Sheriff's officials release numbers related to New Year's patrols

MILWAUKEE (WITI) – Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials on New Year's Day released numbers related to New Year's Eve patrols.

The patrols began on Tuesday, December 31st and continued through Wednesday, January 1st.

The New Year’s Eve initiative, which included more than 64 deputy sheriffs, focused on keeping the public safe from those who engage in the dangerous behavior of driving under the influence (DUI).

There were four repeat offenders arrested.  Five drunken drivers were involved in crashes, including one at 9:06 a.m. today who struck a squad that was stopped at a crash scene on I-94 at 16th Street.  The deputy was not injured.

From Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 2pm to Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at noon, the Sheriff’s Office enforcement initiative resulted in the following arrests, citations, and calls for service:

2     Seat belt citations
6     Excessive Speed citations
20   Unlicensed/Revoked/Suspended Drivers
46   Other Moving Violations (i.e. unsafe lane deviation, inattentive driving)
12    Non-moving violations (i.e. non-registration of vehicle, equipment violations)
13   Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Arrests
22   Crashes with property damage only
8     Crashes with injuries
0      Fatal crashes        
5      Drunken driving-related crashes (One of which struck a marked-occupied squad car)
2      Warrant arrests (2 Misdemeanor)

- The first DUI arrest occurred at 4:33 p.m. Tuesday
- The last DUI arrest took place at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday
- The average prohibited alcohol level was .12
- The highest prohibited alcohol level was .19
